Special topics at Between the Lakes Group

We have some special topics at Between the Lakes Group that we would like to tell you about.

At Between the Lakes Group we have some collections available that transcend the limitations of geography that we have organized for your perusal.  Some have been very popular over the years, while others, well, not so much.  But just because they weren’t interesting to someone else does not mean that they’re not exactly what you’re looking for!  So, have a look at some of the special topics at Between the Lakes Group!

Sheet Music:

Here’s one:  sheet music of 100 years ago, more or less:

Everybody’s Doin It Now

Regardless of the somewhat risque implications of the title of this number, it was indeed popular “back when” — and it was written by the immortal Irving Berlin, the man who brought us “White Christmas” and “God Bless America” among others.

You can find this one, as well as several more, on our Sheet Music page.  Simply CLICK HERE to visit it!

Yearbooks:

Another category in which we have quite a few offerings from all over the country (but concentrated in the Northeast) is that of school and college yearbooks.  In case you’ve not thought much about it, high school yearbooks represent not only the people who appear in them, but also a snapshot of a community at a particular point in time.   We may or may not have anything for the year and school you have an interest in, but it’s worth a look.

Genealogy:

We had been relying on geography to offer our genealogies until we hit one particularly difficult case — whether to place it in Rhode Island, where the progenitor settled, or whether to place it in Sullivan County, New York, where we happened to actually know a fair number of his descendents.  At that point we began our Genealogy section.  There are complete books here and there are hidden genealogies — the kind of genealogical material you find buried in a local history or other volume.  But if there is a family you are interested in, why not take a few minutes to find out what we have to offer?  Perhaps a surname you’re interested in is represented by one of these hidden genealogies!

Military History:

We’ve done a bit with military history, too.  We got started in this particular area because of the Civil War sesquicentennial, but from there we looked a bit into what was then the future to the centennial of World War I.  Needless to say, we looked backward, too, to the Revolutionary War, and even farther back than that.

Americana:

Somewhere there’s a place for things that simply don’t fit other classifications.  At Between the Lakes Group, we generally fall back to the useful category of Americana for them.  A little social history, a little intellectual history, a little cultural history, a little, well, a little Americana!

We have a few more subject categories to add to these special topics at Between the Lakes Group, so be sure to check back!!
